The comments by Ukip"s heading MEP on Wednesday afternoon have generated a mad greeting in the European Parliament and opposite Belgium.

"I don"t wish to be rude," he began.

"But you know, really, you have the glamour of a slightly soppy broom and the coming of a low class bank clerk."

To shrill protests, Mr Farage continued: "The subject that I wish to ask and that we are all going to ask is: who are you? I had never listened of you; nobody in Europe had ever listened of you. I would similar to to ask you, Mr President: who voted for you? And what resource - I know democracy is not renouned with you lot - what resource do the peoples of Europe have to remove you? Is this European democracy?"

"Sir, you have no legitimacy in this pursuit at all, and I can contend with certainty that I can verbalise on interest of the infancy of the British people in saying: we do not know you, we do not wish you, and the earlier you are put out to grass, the better."

Against a credentials of flourishing protests, Mr Farage indicted a visibly jarred Mr Van Rompuy of being a "dangerous" Belgian European federalist.

"I have no disbelief that it is your goal to be the still murderer of European democracy and of the European republic states. Martin Schulz, the German personality of Socialist MEPs, called on Mr Farage to be reprimanded and demanded his resignation.

Parliament sources have reliable that Mr Farage has been summoned by Jerzy Buzek, the Parliament President, to embrace an central reprimand, and probable disciplinary action, subsequent Tuesday.

"He has been summoned to the headmaster"s bureau and expects a spanking," pronounced a Ukip spokesman.

Sources have told The Dailythat the controversy, at large reported by the BBC, was on purpose staged to foster Mr Farage"s appreance on the corporation"s Question Time programme on Thursday night.

Many Belgians are hurt by Mr Farage"s outline of Mr Van Rompuy, their former premier, as a soppy rag.
